Health
One of the most important aspects of being a dog owner is making sure our dogs are as healthy as they can be. That means putting them on the best diet we can, getting regular vet care, regular grooming, and always keeping an eye on them for any signs of illness or discomfort. Because, even mild pain or discomfort can change how our dogs interact with us. a sore paw from licking due to allergies or a pain in the knee from a slipping knee cap can cause a dog to become defensive and even show some mild or not so mild aggression, which is no fault of the dog, I mean how happy are you when you are in pain and having to deal with others? I imagine not on your best behavior either!
That is no different for dogs and many people tend to forget that.
And, while Bull Terrier's are not generally an unhealthy breed, all dogs, mutts or pure bred have genetic health conditions or issues they are prone to.
Bull Terrier's are prone to Skin allergies, Heart problems, Kidney problems, Deafness, Back problems, Slipping knee caps, and Neurological conditions.
Along with things such as the habit of eating inedible objects and causing self inflicted injuries (Bull Terrier's are pretty clumsy)
They can be a bit expensive to care for, so make sure you buy from a reputable breeder who takes great care to produce the healthiest puppies and adults you can.
As an owner, I can tell you nothing pains me more then seeing my dogs in distress due to health, even some thing as seemingly simply as a red itchy rash can cause me heart ache, watching him lick his paws till they are sore and red, listening to him lose sleep over having to itch, getting painful ear infections due to the allergies, which can be caused by simply dropping a few potato chips on the floor a few days prior.
All you want to do as an owner is to see them feeling happy and content without being uncomfortable or in pain.
I always make sure to do my research into any conditions my dogs might suffer from, reading, contacting specialist's to ask questions, I rarely am satisfied with just one vets opinion!
All of this research has lead me to create this section in hopes of better educating other owners and possibly shedding some light into possible issues your own dogs may be suffering from. often times I see owners who come across something suddenly with their dogs, maybe a sudden red rash has appeared and they are worried as to what it could be, maybe they need to know how to help soothe it until they can get into see their vet and what a better idea of what could be happening. Maybe they have talked to a vet and want to explore all options and do not know where to begin.
This is the reason I have created this section, I have been in that panic mode on a weekend, finding a strange bump or rash.
Something not quite warranting a trip to the emergency vet but sudden and strange enough to cause a panic in me.
and, I have been their- rushing off to Google and forums to beg people to give me some bit of advice or possible idea's on what could be happening.
We all do it, we all have that need to know what could be causing our dear little babies trouble and we have that deep rooted need to know, to understand to help ease the panic.
It is human nature.
But keeping our dogs healthy also includes preventative measures.
We give our dogs flea and tick preventative to protect them from fleas and ticks and the disease's they can carry and give our dogs, we vaccinate to prevent virus's, we also stop our dogs from hurting themselves by monitoring exercise and activity and training them to not eat things!
These are all ways of keeping our dogs healthy and they all are important aspects of every dogs care.
PLEASE NOTE- I AM NOT A VETERINARIAN AND THIS AND ALL HEALTH SECTIONS ARE IN NO WAY TO TREAT YOUR OWN DOGS. IF YOU ARE HAVING ANY MEDICAL PROBLEMS WITH YOUR DOG YOU NEED TO CONTACT YOUR VETERINARIAN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND DISCUSS TREATMENT PLANS WITH THEM.
DO NOT BE STUPID BY TRYING TO TREAT CONDITIONS YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND YOURSELF AS YOU CAN AND WILL CAUSE MORE HARM THEN GOOD FOR YOUR DOG.
THESE PAGES SHOULD ONLY BE USED AS THINGS TO BRING UP AND DISCUSS WITH A VETERINARIAN ON POSSIBLE TREATMENTS OR DIAGNOSES.
